Riley Balsa Surfboard vs. Polyurethane Board

The ultimate surfboard strength test:

We have put together an experimental setup to compare the strength of a Riley balsa shortboard and a regular PU board.

The Riley board features a 100% recycled EPS core, 3mm balsa on deck and bottom and 4oz glass on deck and bottom. The board has been used for over 5 years.

The PU (Polyurethane) board has 6oz glass on the deck and 4oz on the bottom. It is brand new.

The test: A 26kg weight is dropped from different heights on the boards until they break. Check out the images or better yet the video to see what happens next.
