Our shaping kits start from only $531 AUD and include everything you need to shape your own balsa board (except tools*) -see list to the right :

* When shaping a balsa board you do need some basic tools - a planer, saw, and a sander. Don't let the cost of these tools discourage you though as you can pick them up pretty cheaply or even borrow them from a mate.

* The provided DVD does not include the $30 voucher.

What's the difference between 1st grade and 2nd grade balsa?

2nd grade balsa is a bit heavier, darker, has more knots and is not as straight as first grade balsa. Some people actually like working with it since they like having knots in their finished board.

1st grade balsa is very light, straight and has very few knots. But remember - even 1st grade balsa is a natural material so there are differences between the pieces. But that's the beauty of working with wood!

Foam core balsa skinned surfboard shaping kits

This surfboard building kit comes with everything you need to make your own foam core balsa skinned fish or shortboard.

Included is.

1. Recycled EPS foam blank cut with rocker curves.
2. 2 sheets of 2.6mm laminated balsa sheets x 500mmx 2000mm – for deck and bottom.
3. 4 lengths of 6mm thick solid balsa bands for rails.
4. 1 litre of glue for balsa and foam.
5. Solid tail and nose blocks.
6. Balsa coloured putty with varying colour.
7. 60 grit sand paper.
8. Large and small sanding blocks.
9. Tape for bands and nose and tail blocks.
10. 1 litre of Wood sealer before glassing.
11. Glue scraper

Due to the unique combination of Balsa and EPS, the finished board has great flex and flotation characteristics. Without doubt this will be the strongest and most durable board in your quiver.

This kit is suitable for everyone - the experienced shaper looking for a new material/experience as well as absolute novices who want to shaper their first surfboard.
